Look Out for Fake Stripping Professionals!
We know what it takes to be an expert at door stripping, as it requires the skills which are not only restricted to stripping wood but performing it with precision, accuracy, and care. These are three pivotal points in wood stripping and the same case applies to paint stripping too!!
Most of us in this day and age get victimised by the fake professionals who pretend to be very good at wood stripping but in real they strip wood by leaving so many flaws in it. How are we benefited then? These type of men, when stripping woods, somehow they get failed in either its precision, accuracy or care. How can we prevent this then?
ALWAYS get to know these type of men’s capability by having a discussion before the commencement of project; this discussion should cover all aspects of wood strip as it will tell you in which direction your project will go and it will help you anticipate the end-result and will prevent you in encountering bad results at the end, which most of the people do who gets subjected to these fake professionals. The same case applies in paint stripping. It is very difficult to remove paint from old doors which only professionals can do; as it is a very sensitive thing and could cause some serious trouble while not handling it properly.
While I was hovering over articles, someone inboxed me a question on facebook, which I think would be worth sharing here:
Q: Is stripping old doors a good idea?
A: Well, this recent trend is historically inappropriate and may cause harm, as most old doors are made of soft wood that was originally painted. An exception to this is pre-18th-century oak doors that, where not lime washed, were sometimes left unpainted. Sandblasting will spoil the surface of timber while dipping in ‘acid baths’ can raise the grain, and (by softening the glue) weaken joints.
It is generally inadvisable to apply linseed oil, stain or varnish to unpainted oak doors. if it is thought vital, beeswax and turpentine can be applied to unpainted oak internally.
